What Causes the ABS Warning Light?

  • Failed ABS control module — the most common cause. The module processes wheel speed data and controls ABS pump pulses.
  • Faulty wheel speed sensor — individual sensors can fail or become dirty, sending bad data to the module.
  • ABS pump or actuator failure — the pump pressurizes brake fluid; failure triggers the ABS warning.
  • Low brake fluid — some systems illuminate the ABS light when fluid is critically low.
  • Damaged tone ring / reluctor ring — the toothed ring on the wheel hub that sensors read.
  • Wiring or connector fault — corroded or damaged wiring to any wheel speed sensor.

Is It Safe to Drive with the ABS Light On?

Your regular brakes will still work, but the ABS system will not activate during an emergency stop. This means wheels can lock up on wet, icy, or gravel roads — significantly increasing stopping distance and the risk of skidding and loss of control.

⚠ We strongly recommend diagnosing and fixing the ABS fault before driving in adverse weather or at highway speeds.

Common ABS Fault Codes (OBD-II)

  • C0035–C0050 — Wheel speed sensor circuit faults (FL, FR, RL, RR)
  • C0110 — ABS motor / pump circuit failure
  • C0265 — ABS/EBCM relay contact circuit open
  • U0121 — Lost communication with ABS control module
  • C121C — Torque request signal denied (ABS / ESC related)

Enter your VIN above and our team will identify your exact fault code and the correct replacement module.
